Modular wooden houses
A modular wooden house is built on an assembly line. It consists of several modules, shipped to the site and assembled without the need for heavy machinery.
Advantages of those constructions:
- Generally cheaper than traditional buildings (between 10 and 30% cheaper)
- Work time is reduced (from 6 months to 10 days)
- They generate less construction waste
The modules are produced in a controlled environment, therefore reducing the risk of material degradation.
It is a good solution to adopt for your ecological house in Portugal.
The concept of low-energy buildings appeared in the 1970s after the oil crisis. At that time, studies had already been carried out on very isolated houses and passive solar constructions. These experiences inspired therefore the concept of passive houses that appeared in the 1990s.
The first passive house was built in 1991 in Darmstadt, Germany. This is where the Passive House Institute is located. This institute is an independent research center managed by Dr. Wolfgang Feist. It provides training to train building professionals in the Passive House concept.
